An international group of companies from the lighting industry have joined forces to form Zhaga, an industry-wide cooperative with the goal of developing standard specifications for the interfaces of LED light engines.
The companies include Acuity Brands Lighting, Cooper Lighting,
OSRAM,
Panasonic,
Philips, Schreder, Toshiba, TRILUX and Zumbotel Group.
As rapid advances in LED technology continue, Zhaga aims to enable interchangablity between products made by diverse manufacturers. The established standards will cover the physical dimensions as well as the photometric, electrical and thermal behavior of LED light engines.
The group hopes to increase consumer confidence in LED products and foster innovation and competition in the LED lighting market.
Zhaga aims to grow its membership from the spectrum of players in the LED lighting industry.
A first meeting of the consortium will take place this month, during which members will take the first steps in creating Zhaga standard interfaces for LED light engines.
